If you thought “Superstition” was written about you when you heard the lyrics flow from Stevie Wonder&s lips for the first time, then you must be a gambler. In fact, you are probably a serious bingo player. It&s well known that superstitions are common for us but can we take it too far?

In American bingo halls you see trinkets of all sorts scattered around the long tables. Tables are decorated with good luck charms and there is none as popular as the well known troll doll. Their multi-colored hair is stroked as anxious players prepare to dab in hopes of winning the super jackpot coverall game.

Around the UK, where bingo is a very different experience, you&ll find a slightly different scene. The good luck tokens range from dabbers in every color or maybe a coin from a great grandfather but to say that there&s a bit more modesty among bingo clubs would be untrue.

As all bingo players know, superstitions range from person to person. Focusing on the numbers you need is a must. Some of us will them out as if we&re praying for rain. I&ve envisioned myself standing up and chanting. Wouldn&t that be a sight to see?

Visit a land based casino and observe; that is if you can stop yourself from running to the games. Objects aren&t necessarily displayed for luck but the superstition is there. It&s all in the actions, some more extreme than others. There are screen tappers, screen swipers and the machine punchers, on second thought that last one may not be as much of a display of superstition as it is anger.

Autumn is as good a time as any to pull out all your tricks in hopes of a treat. As we approach Halloween, embrace that black cat, that ladder or that crack in the sidewalk. Oh but may want to avoid the thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin’ glass…
